Panel discussion brought together leading industry figures Mark Mitten of Mitten Media and creative producer Nevo Shinaar

On March 14th, 2025, Filmmaker Friday Chicago hosted another successful event at the prestigious Chicago Cultural Centre, thanks to generous support from the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE). The evening's panel discussion, titled 'AI and the Future of the Film Industry,' brought together leading industry figures Mark Mitten of Mitten Media and creative producer Nevo Shinaar for an insightful conversation about the intersection of artificial intelligence and filmmaking.

Mark Mitten, an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning producer, offered his perspective shaped by decades of experience in media and brand strategy. "AI presents an enormous opportunity for storytellers," Mark said. "It’s not about replacing filmmakers, but rather enhancing our ability to explore stories we've never imagined. The creative possibilities are limitless."

Nevo Shinaar, whose award-winning portfolio includes Academy Award-shortlisted projects like 'Bad Axe,' 'White Eye,' and 'Stay Close,' emphasised the ethical considerations and creative responsibilities filmmakers hold when integrating AI into their craft. "Technology has always shaped storytelling, but it's essential we remain thoughtful and intentional," Nevo explained. "AI can amplify powerful narratives, but it's our role as creators to ensure authenticity isn't compromised."

The conversation hosted by Filmmaker Friday's Armin Korsos captivated an audience of filmmakers, creatives, and industry enthusiasts eager to understand AI's role in shaping the future of film.

"This was one of the most forward-thinking panels we've had yet," noted Armin. "Both Mark and Nevo offered incredible insights on how filmmakers can adapt and thrive in a rapidly evolving industry. We're grateful to DCASE for helping bring such essential conversations to Chicago’s creative community."

Filmmaker Friday Chicago continues to foster meaningful connections and industry dialogues, further strengthening Chicago's film landscape through events that inspire, inform, and unite the filmmaking community.

Filmmaker Friday Chicago also announces the launch of its new website, offering attendees easy access to a calendar of upcoming events, FAQs, press coverage, and an option to subscribe to the newsletter. This new platform will be instrumental in supporting the organisation's steady growth and helping meet the increasing demand for an exciting line up of events planned for this spring and summer.
