Nissan Cloud-hunter is the story of two young farmers, who after after an especially dry season have an ingenious idea to bring rain to their village. The commercial, running at 90 seconds has epic proportions and fantastic quality.
The storytelling highlights the concept “More than just power” created by the creative agency LewLara/TBWA in partnership with the Nissan brand. At the core of this concept is the idea that the brand doesn’t just build super powerful vehicles, it also creates intelligent mobility technologies that help people achieve a better driving experience.
LewLara/TBWA’s strategy was to create something that would resonate with a core consumer who actually works in farmlands and uses the Frontier for work purposes, but which wouldn’t alienate the general consumer. Good old storytelling was the way to go.
Rodrigo Saavedra, the film’s director, said “4x4 and pick-up truck ads are generally all about power, all about being aggressive and tackling any terrain that comes your way. What struck me about this film was the fact that it actually has quite an emotional story at it’s core. It tells the story of two farmers struggling with a drought and then goes into a fantastic tale which nonetheless requires some extremely hard work from their Nissan Frontier."
An interesting side note about the advert’s production is that the chosen location for the shoot, was an 18-house village in a remote part of northeastern Brazil, where it hadn’t rained for 6 years, and just as the final rain scenes were about to be shot, it actually started raining. The rain you see in the commercial is very rare, and very real.
The ad was produced by the award winning production company Landia standout production company in AdAge’s 2016 list and 2nd best production company in the world according to the Gunn Report.
