Estrid Claps Back at Gillette Venus

Swedish razor brand, Estrid, has clapped back at Gillette Venus, after discovering it has purchased its ‘www.estrid.nl’ website domain – despite the latter owning a whopping 73% of the hair removal market already.

The website now redirects to Gillette Venus’s website – and consumers have been quick to call out Gillette Venus for targeting a smaller brand, flocking to the brand’s recent Instagram posts to express their criticism.

In a post to the brand’s Instagram profile, Estrid called out Gilette Venus with a visual post that read ‘Dear Gilette, Thank you for noticing us. Love, Estrid’, followed by a carousel of memes and a caption that reads:

“Thank you, Gillette Venus! @gillettevenus. We were recently made aware that Estrid.nl was bought to redirect to Gillette Venus’s website. At first, we were a little miffed—After all, Estrid is our name, not yours. But after some deeper thought, given our very balanced Swedish disposition, we are absolutely delighted and extremely flattered. You own 73% of the hair removal market, so surely there’s no need to be worried about little old Estrid. So to buy up an Estrid domain? Honestly, it made our day.Anyway. We wish you nothing but the best. Please carry on doing your thing, and we’ll continue doing ours. Love, Estrid”

At the time of writing, the Instagram post has racked up over 20,000 likes and over 600 comments, with users commenting their dissatisfaction with Gillette Venus. One user commented, “Never buying Gillette again now 😂 they ate shooting themselves in the foot”, with another commenting, “This is such a petty thing od Gillette to do, what the hell lmao.”

But it doesn’t stop there – as users have also taken to Gillette Venus’s Instagram profile to call out the brand, commenting on Gillette Venus’s recent posts (HERE and HERE). One user commented “Imagine buying a domain to another company when you own the lions share of the market?? That’s embarrassing even for you”, whilst another sarcastically commented “Congrats on buying a smaller companies domain, show great spirit 👏”
