Sole joins the team from her previous role at The Mill

Electric Theatre Collective has announced that VFX supervisor Soledad Martin has recently joined their ever-growing team. Sole joins from The Mill where she spent almost nine years honing her craft by working on impressive projects such as Three ‘Puggerfly’, Propel ‘Make The World Your Gym’, Apex Legends Season five Trailer and Nike ‘Awaken The Phantom’.

Having started her career as an agency producer, Sole has over 15 years of experience in the industry. When she’s not crafting VFX, Sole has a whole list of creative outlets such as drawing, painting and writing.

Iain Murray, head of 2D, says ”Sole is an exceptionally creative artist who naturally emits calmness and sunshine. From the moment we met I knew she would fit into the ETC family, and we are absolutely delighted to have her onboard.”

Electric Theatre Collective caught up with Sole to chat about rainy British summers, what she’d spend her millions on if she won the lottery and all things VFX.

Q> What brings you to ETC?

Soledad> Lovely people, a great atmosphere and the best VFX work out there. I wanted to be part of this!

Q> You started off your career journey as an agency producer, what made you make that transition to the VFX world?

Soledad> I started off as an agency producer purely by chance. I went in wanting to be an editor and they chucked the producing bit at me as a bonus. Great experience though. As soon as I went through the doors of a post house and saw what they were up to, I knew I didn't want to be an editor, I wanted to do this. And the rest is history. Not quite, haha! I did work as an agency producer for a little bit longer, then I went for it.

Q> You moved from Madrid in December 2012, what has been the best thing and worst thing about moving to London (and why is the worst thing the weather?)

Soledad> The best thing is undoubtedly my career, I should say, right? But it's also the opportunity to learn so much about so many other cultures, having restaurants featuring cuisines of the world at hand almost everywhere, basically being exposed to diversity in a way I wouldn't have if I hadn't been in London. Then I've also happened to meet really lovely people along the way. The worst thing is definitely the weather, haha! Have you been here this summer (early and long autumn more like!)?

Q> If you could have your name added to any project from years gone by, what would it be?

Soledad> Sony Bravia, the bouncy balls one.

Q> You describe yourself as a keen laugher, what's made you chuckle recently?

Soledad> Gosh, I didn't want to go with my kid for this one. But two nights ago he decided to have a poo in the bath, then complained there was something touching his back. I couldn't stop laughing! In his defence, he's not even two. I'm also laughing a lot with the last season of Modern Family, Cam and Mitch are the best characters.

Q> You’ve worked on projects such as Propel’s ‘Make The World Your Gym 'and Three ‘Puggerfly’. Would you rather have a pet puggerfly or turn the streets of London into your own fitness fortress?

Soledad> You've got me with this one! I could never turn down a pet puggerfly, can I take it to the fitness fortress with me?

Q> If you won the lottery tomorrow what would you splash the cash on?

Soledad> A really big house, I want more room in my life! Probably wouldn't have enough money to buy a decent one in London still. So traveling it is.

Q> If you had one piece of advice for someone looking to step into the industry, what would it be?

Soledad> Open your eyes. Look very closely at the mundane things because these are those little details that make a big difference. Look also very closely at what your colleagues are doing and try to learn as much as you can from as many people as possible. And always be a team player, VFX is all about teamwork.
