Award-winning comedy editor Ryan Spears has joined the ranks of woman-owned, bicoastal edit house The Den. Nominated for an Emmy for his years of work as an editor on Saturday Night Live, with credits ranging from commercials and short films to his highly recognisable work in television, Ryan’s edits serve as the necessary, critical assist in helping land a well-timed joke for seasoned comedy vets and professional athletes alike.
Through his work at SNL, Spears has had the opportunity to collaborate with legendary comedians like Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Dave Chappelle, as well as musical guests and hosts Lizzo, Billie Eilish, and Miley Cyrus, among many others. His work editing pre-taped sketches for Saturday Night Live includes viral hits like the 'Big Boys' music video ft. SZA, as well as parodies like 'Murder Durdur,' 'American Girl Doll Trailer,' and 'HBO Mario Kart.' Spears has also shown off his more complex editing skills on SNL’s recurring TikTok sketches and shorts for the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy.
Outside of his career at Saturday Night Live, he has served as an editor for shows like Teenage Euthanasia on Adult Swim, The Amber Ruffin Show, Season 5 of Inside Amy Schumer, and The Rundown with Robin Thede. Commercially, Spears has cut spots for Netflix, Intel, Daring, Athletic Greens, Smile Direct Club, Kate Spade, and The New York Rangers.
