The photographer-turned-filmmaker 'always saw things in motion'

A long time listener to RESPECT THE PROCESS, Amy Schromm was familiar with host Jordan Brady and considered him 'a really amazing resource.' Through his Commercial Directing Film School, Amy enrolled in Kristyna Archer’s 'Winning Director’s Treatment' online course. This led her to apply, and in February of this year, to become a Diversity Award-winner, receiving a full scholarship to Jordan’s April 2025 Commercial Directing Bootcamp in Santa Monica, CA. The award was co-sponsored by premium video production boutique True Gent and AFX, a multidisciplinary studio specializing in visual effects, virtual production, offline, finishing and colour.

“Jordan’s voice, his manner, is that of a friend who wants to give you guidance,” says Amy, a high-end commercial photographer who has shot for Gallo, LuxCo, Panera, Dr. Pepper, Snapple, Anheuser-Busch, and others. The St. Louis native was 10 when her dad gifted her a film camera, and while she studied photography and design, cutting her teeth at Group 360, and with The Wade Brothers in Kansas City, Amy “always saw things in motion.”

She recalls that “St. Louis was a boys’ club. In a way it was good that I reached the ceiling there because I’m adventurous and it pushed me out.” Amy now lives in Nashville, TN, where she finds way more doors opening. “Ultimately, the work speaks for itself, regardless of gender,” she notes. At Bootcamp, Jordan’s wife, filmmaker Jeannette Godoy, shared her own experience becoming a director, “which I identified with a lot,” says Amy. “She was in a similar space to mine when she made the transition to directing (in Godoy’s case, from being a leading choreographer), so I got to learn from her experiences with spec spots and building agency relationships.”

Diversity was also on full display at Commercial Directing Bootcamp, adding to the breadth of knowledge shared. “There were filmmakers from India, from New York, people with a postproduction background, and a live event background,” Amy observes. “It all points to the fact that there’s not one right way to get to where you’re going.”

Amy certainly came away from Commercial Directing Bootcamp with a strong sense of where she is taking her career. “Jordan has given me so much guidance,” she asserts. “I arrived at the Bootcamp with so many ideas and options that I was spinning my wheels. In two seconds, he drilled down to my voice, my ideal clients, and more. Going through Jordan’s jam-packed curriculum - probably a week’s worth of information in a single day - gave me a lot of clarity and really precise direction. I now see where I’m heading and I know the steps to take to get there.”

Coming up is Jordan’s Fall Filmmaker Retreat in Joshua Tree, where workshops cover creative problem solving, leadership skills and practical production tips – taught in a healthy environment of filmmaking peers on spiritual grounds.

“Amy's knowledge of Brand Storytelling shines through in her photography and videos. Her voice and POV is there, so hopefully our courses can help her navigate the spot world,” Jordan says, adding, “And while the Trump gang abandons DEI, we stand firm in helping underrepresented voices, one filmmaker at a time.”
