Opening collaboration for Finnair's 100th Anniversary film launches

Miika Vaso - a London based director with Finnish roots - joins Directors Guild Helsinki.

Directors Guild widens its roster of directors for the Finnish market with a recent signing of Miika Vaso. Their first common project after officially getting together is out today. And it’s not just any job, it’s the 100th anniversary film for the Finnish national airline Finnair.

”It’s a great honour to join Directors Guild for representation in my native Finland. I’ve gotten to know the company over the years through common projects and I couldn’t be more excited about making the relationship official and exclusive. I felt that Directors Guild was the one and only option when it comes to the Finnish market and I”m proud to have a new home and a new family in Finland,” Miika Vaso says.

Miika has recently signed for exclusive representation in the UK and Asia with MYTHSMYTH.

”I know Miika from a long time ago and I’ve been following his career carefully. He’s just around the big breaktrough internationally with his visually driven story-oriented style. The recent signing news abroad tells the same story - he’s a wanted director at the moment and I know that will be even more so very soon.” Juha-Matti Nieminen, Executive Producer and Managing Director of Directors Guild Helsinki says.

Finnair’s 100th Anniversary film was shot late last year in back-to-back in four different locations around the globe, Film is going out in 20 countries, markets ranging from the APAC to India, plus their entire onboard entertainment system.

”Miika is a super nice guy with a strong clear vision about his work. When adding in background in agencies and strong understanding of that side of the work together with history in editing all this makes him a director who can’t be passed with a shrug. In this Finnair job the whole story came true in Miika's hands with a close collaboration with agency SEK, and it would not have been the same without the director we got onboard,” said Seppo Kerkelä, executive producer for Finnair film.

Directors Guild runs against the current trend in Finland by being almost only production company who are maintaining a wide and quality roster of represented directors. This is a well proven international standard for high class production companies, but the market in Finland has recently shaped to a more fractioned direction as most of the competing production houses use a same pool of freelancers.

Directors Guild see their own progress as the only way to build up real ambitious business which really could bring in the added value for clients from the creative and quality perspective.

”Directors and producers who are able to consistently work together, are more than the sum of their parts. To us this means that the real, close, and long-lasting relationship between these co-workers is absolutely vital. This is something we know will be directly added as a ”add-on” to productions and works only towards the clients’ good,” Juha-Matti Nieminen concludes.
