Digital Takes Centre Stage in Winter Campaigns for Sun Valley, Snowbasin Ski Resorts and Utah Office of Tourism

The ski season is upon us and some of the country’s most prominent winter destinations are gearing up their tourism efforts.

This month, Sun Valley and Snowbasin, two highly prestigious resorts, and Visit Utah are launching winter marketing campaigns. Key to these efforts are new and improved websites, which are the main sources of information and the primary drivers of destination bookings.

Sun Valley, established in 1936 as America’s first destination ski resort, is located in the Idaho mountains and was named North America’s number one ski resort for three years in a row by SKI Magazine. Its sister property, Snowbasin, was the host venue for the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympic Alpine events and, this year, was ranked #2. Both are members of the Grand America Hotels and Resorts (GAHR) family.

The Utah Office of Tourism is telling its ski story via a winter campaign that includes a new interactive landing page to help bring this campaign to life and remind travelers that Utah offers “The greatest snow on earth.” 

Months in development, all three sites are now live. They were created by independent agency Hanson Dodge which has a deep digital history. HD, for example, previously developed the Visit Utah site, which won the 2021 ESTO Mercury Award for Best Travel Website.  

Among the many ways these sites have been improved:

-Sun Valley and Snowbasin now feature home pages that virtually invite visitors to feel and experience the snow and the wide open, fresh outdoor settings of each resort. They are simpler and easier to navigate, with planning pages specially designed for each type of visitor: families, adventurers, and mountain experience lovers. And they offer a more comprehensive showcase of resort offerings

-For Visit Utah, the winter campaign landing page creates a personalized experience, including background visuals which change in accordance with the visitor’s interests. There’s also an animated “snow tracker” showing the amount of snow that has already fallen this season. Last year, for example, Utah experienced a record-breaking winter snowfall of 903”. As the site declares, “Some call it magic.  We call it winter.”
