If you’ve been to Cannes Lions, you’ll know that you can get booze at any time, day or night, but it’s almost impossible to find food after midnight. The result? A lot of drunk, hungry people stumbling around town at three in the morning. Deutsch LA wants to help those people this year with scooters that will deliver free late-night pizza throughout Cannes — and a mobile app that will help them find it.
The idea for ‘Cannes Has Pizza’ began at 5am in Cannes three years ago, when Jeff Sweat, SVP at Deutsch, was desperately searching for food. This year Deutsch will be delivering 1800 slices of pizza throughout the week, Tuesday to Thursday night, from midnight until 2am.
The agency is working with a local pizzeria to hand out pizza from five Deutsch LA-branded scooters at points where crowds have formed – whether that’s at kicking out time of a party or legendary Cannes locations, like the Gutter Bar. Drivers will be decked out in orange jumpsuits and white helmets, signalling the agency’s colours.
Rather than having people simply hope the bikes stop by, Deutsch wanted to give people a way to find a slice. Cue a mobile delivery app and site - CannesHasPizza.com. Drivers will set their destination on GPS-enabled iPhones, so that app-users will know where to get the nearest pizza and how far away the scooters are.
People looking at the site will see the new location on the map with a pizza icon— and will be able to tell exactly where the scooters are with a scooter icon.
