MAMA, Mark Potoka and Matt Starr Spicer, are known for their humorous storytelling ability and their comedic use of visual effects

Denim is excited to welcome directing duo MAMA—Mark Potoka and Matt Starr Spicer—to the company’s roster. Known for their sharp comedic sensibility and highly crafted visuals, MAMA brings a unique blend of wit, storytelling, and cinematic precision to every project.

What started as passion projects after hours quickly evolved into a full-fledged career, with the duo transforming late-night creative experiments into a reel of sharp, low-fi spec ads that were as polished as they were unhinged.

MAMA’s work has caught the attention of major brands like Dave’s Hot Chicken, Geico, Smartfood, Midea, MLB, and more.

Their comedy isn’t just entertaining—it’s smart, bold, and endlessly engaging. It’s absurd, it’s out there, it’s a little bit crazy—and that’s exactly why it works.

Through impeccable timing and visual mastery, MAMA turns the most bizarre ideas into something you can’t take your eyes off of. Every frame is meticulously crafted yet feels effortlessly hilarious, a testament to their ability to control chaos in the most visually stunning way possible.

A signature of MAMA’s work is their love for practical effects. But they don’t just rely on post-production magic to sell the joke—they make it real. Whether it's a person seamlessly blending into a tree, a puppet that feels unsettlingly alive, or a stunt that makes you question everyone’s insurance policies, their commitment to in-camera wizardry adds a layer of authenticity to the madness.

“We’re thrilled to welcome MAMA to the Denim roster for representation in Canada,” said Christian Tyler, EP at Denim. “Their work brings a fresh, cinematic approach to comedy, seamlessly blending sharp storytelling with exceptional craft. We believe their work resonates deeply with Toronto and the broader Canadian market, and we can’t wait to collaborate on projects that push creative boundaries and leave audiences in tears—of laughter!”

“Since our first meetings with Denim they’ve felt like good friends and they get our brand of cinematic comedy. We can’t wait to keep building our body of work in Canada with them while wearing the matching Denim jackets they promised us,” said MAMA.

MAMA continues to evolve, embracing bigger stories, bolder ideas, and even wilder executions. Whether it’s directing the next cult-classic feature or a blockbuster about dinosaurs in space (hey, anything’s possible), one thing’s for sure—MAMA is just getting started.
