Electric Theatre Collective has recently announced the promotion of David Filipe to joint head of 2D. David will work alongside existing head of 2D Iain Murray, and the pair will co-manage Electric’s department of world class compositors.
With 14 years in the industry, David has worked through every level at huge VFX houses, collecting a number of impressive accolades along the way. With two VES awards for compositing work on Burberry ‘’singing in the rain” (directed by Megaforce) as well as John Lewis Christmas “Buster the Boxer” (directed by Dougal Wilson), his artistic abilities are second to none.
10 years ago, David met Iain at MPC and the two became great friends. Three years ago, they were elated to be reunited at Electric. Partly because it meant Iain could persuade David to join the company football team (Electric have never won so many games).
David, Flip as he is fondly known, has been a huge part of the Electric team and this next step is possibly his most exciting, giving him the chance to help build on the incredible team of artists already at Electric.
When they are not managing their department (or playing football) Flip and Iain will continue to work on exciting and complex projects, always looking to push the creative and add value.
“Over the past couple of years at Electric, I've been lucky to have been part of an incredible team here, working on some very exciting and challenging projects. I'm absolutely honoured to have been chosen to work alongside Iain in helping to continue to drive forward quite possibly the best 2D department ever assembled, and to really push and elevate the company as a whole in the future. It’s a really exciting time here at Electric at the moment, and together I don’t think there’s anything we can’t achieve.” said David Filipe.
“Flip is a creative problem solver, a master of pixels, an incredible collaborator and amongst all else an exceptional human. This makes the best sort of artist and supervisor and yields the very best work. I am looking forward to Flip bringing these attributes into the role of joint HOD, helping elevate the department and those round him. Exciting times ahead!” said Iain Murray.
