Clairo’s New Music Video Stars Weird Al Yankovic in a Hilarious 1960s-Inspired Visual Journey

With absurdist humour and vibrant visuals, Clairo’s new music video for Terrapin is a genre-defying blast. Directed by SAG, Golden Globe & Emmy Award winner Ayo Edebiri, the video stars “Weird Al” Yankovic as Clairo and is inspired by the playful aesthetics of 1960s music videos - subverting expectations at every turn.

Produced by Curfew, Ayo brought on long time collaborator Sean Price Williams to shoot the video on 35mm film, leaning into the aesthetics of the era. Sam Lisenco (The Bear) and Ana Coccioletti co-production designed the set’s to bring Ayo’s dazzling vision to life.  

Weird Al shines in his role, effortlessly blending his iconic humour with the nostalgic visual language of the era. Paired with Clairo’s timeless voice, the mix somehow just makes sense. 

Terrapin is Edebiri’s directorial debut in the Music Video space. Bringing together creative powerhouses in the industry and fusing together hyperrealism, homages to old Hollywood, and a comedic reverence — Clairo’s notable conversation pits utilized in her live shows bring spectators into her universe even more intimately, thanks to the camerawork of cinematographer Sean Price Williams.

Final Cut editor Matt Carter imbues the visual with a dream-like quality, taking viewers on a journey from the moment Weird Al exits the nostalgic built brownstone. There’s a sentimentality echoed throughout and the glamour of the sequins and the spotlights shining on the subjects, provide a window into what feels like a dream of hypnotic performances.
