Designer Joel Bird and craftsman Bruce Kenneth return to The Great Garden Revolution

Channel 4, in partnership with Ronseal, has recommissioned Rumpus Media to make a second series of Ronseal Presents…The Great Garden Revolution – the primetime gardening TV show that became a hit during the pandemic as people looked for new ways to spruce up their home gardens.

The four-part Branded Entertainment series returns at the time of year when our gardens are bursting back to life. Each week, a team of gardening experts make over a different domestic garden around the UK and show us how to get the most out of our outdoor spaces - planting them for the warmer months ahead, inspiring us with easy makeover ideas and wowing us with the garden transformations.

Designer Joel Bird and craftsman Bruce Kenneth return to The Great Garden Revolution, with head of horticulture at the Horniman Museum and Gardens, Errol Reuben Fernandes, making his debut alongside them in this second series.

Ronseal’s leading wood stain, paint and preservative products will again feature throughout the series. And just like Ronseal’s no-nonsense slogan – ‘Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin’ – each hour-long episode features tips, tricks and ideas that viewers can put into action in their own gardens straight away. There will also be a celebrity guest each week, who will show off their own outdoor space and demonstrate their best gardening tips and skills.

Reflecting the huge popularity of DIY during lockdown – and growing garden usage as people spent more time at home – Series One proved to be a hit with British viewers when it aired in May 2021. Tracking data also shows is also had a positive and lasting impact on Ronseal’s brand awareness and familiarity, helping to drive key product sales in 2021 at levels significantly above the pre-pandemic norm.

The new series has been commissioned by Channel 4’s Clemency Green, senior commissioning editor for Daytime and Features. Working closely with 4Sales, the project is managed through a collaboration created by dentsuMB and The Story Lab. dentsuMB is Ronseal’s strategic and creative agency, while The Story Lab managed the development and commissioning process with Channel 4. The Story Lab will also distribute the series internationally.

The Great Garden Revolution is being made by Rumpus Media. The executive producers are Fintan Maguire and Emily Hudd.

Clemency Green, senior commissioning editor for Channel 4, said: “I’m so pleased The Great Garden Revolution is back for a second series, offering more creative inspiration for our own outside spaces, from bijou balconies and tiny terraces to extensive lawns and overgrown flower beds.”

Jane Ryder, vice president and general manager at Sherwin Williams, Ronseal said: “The response to series one of The Great Garden Revolution was fantastic, so we’re delighted to present a brand-new series full of more inspiring gardening advice and clever DIY hacks.

“The show is a celebration of the can-do attitude of gardeners and DIYers across the country, helping them get the job done in a simple, no-fuss fashion – which is what Ronseal is all about.

“We’re very excited to be working with Channel 4 and Rumpus again on a new series that we’re sure will encourage even more people to get creative in their gardens.”

Fintan Maguire, co-executive producer and director of Factual at Rumpus Media, said: “Series one of The Great Garden Revolution was a brilliant project to work on as we helped an iconic brand like Ronseal to make its mark in a new media format. We’re so pleased to be working on series two, showcasing more stunning garden makeovers and bringing more handy tips and creative ideas to viewers thanks to our wonderful expert line-up.”

Julie Chadwick, managing partner at dentsuMB, said: “The success of The Great Garden Revolution is rooted in the strength of the collaboration between Ronseal, its agencies, the broadcaster and the production company. By creating such an engaging programme format for series one, we’ve got a great platform to build on for series two as we continue to inspire the nation’s DIYers and place Ronseal at the forefront of a gardening revolution.”
