Now available as a side to any delicious Combo meal or as a crunchy accompaniment the the new Crispy Onion Ring Sandwich and Crispy Onion Ring Twister wrap, this savoury newcomer - seasoned to perfection with KFC’s signature seasonings - takes the humble onion ring to new, emotion-inducing heights. To herald the arrival of Crispy Onion Rings, KFC launched a new campaign led by AOR, Courage Inc. A new :30, Nikki Ormerod-directed brand spot with a swelling operatic score leads the effort as it channels the overwhelmingly joyful experience, from the moment the chef slices the raw onions to the second KFC customers take their first bite.
“These truly aren’t your ordinary onion rings,” said Laura Mallozzi, marketing manager at KFC Canada. “Crispy onion rings deliver a whole new flavour experience for our consumers, who are already accustomed to KFC's careful approach to creating that expertly seasoned, golden-fried bite. So, we wanted to take a moment to capture - and yes, have a little fun with - that first bite.”
The waterworks continue with an OOH series that announces the new menu item with the help of emotional customers and a simple line, “Who’s cutting onions?.” The launch follows a socially-led teaser campaign where unsuspecting and pleasantly surprised influencers found a single onion ring in their order of fries.
