Portfolio competition recognises outstanding creative professionals aged 30 and under

International music company BUTTER Music and Sound composer Jocelyn Chambers has been selected as a Young Guns 22 (YG22) honouree. The prestigious portfolio competition recognises outstanding creative professionals aged 30 and under, including designers, illustrators, entrepreneurs, and more. Jocelyn will accept her award at the YG22 Ceremony + Party, taking place on November 13th in New York City.

She recently worked on the Super Bowl commercial for Doritos Dinamita, titled “Dina & Mita”, a Clash of Clans campaign for “Clan Capital,” and Smirnoff's Smash Tea Partay campaign starring Kathy Hilton. Before earning the YG22 spot, she was a second-place recipient of the Young Guns COLORFUL grant competition, a free portfolio competition and grant exclusively for young BIPOC creative professionals.

Jocelyn Chambers has always been a creative entrepreneur, learning how to play piano at age seven and running Sweets by Jocelyn at age nine. Music and film deeply resonated with her as a young child and once she discovered film scoring as a career option, it was a no-brainer that she would pursue the craft. She began studying composition at the Armstrong Community Music School, winning the Texas Young Composer’s competition twice in 2011 and 2013. She attended the American Festival of the Arts, where she wrote the string quartet 'Enigma for the Night' in collaboration with the Houston Ballet. Chambers went on to study at The University of Texas at Austin, where she received a Bachelor of Music Composition and was honoured by the College of Fine Arts for her advocacy and activism.

She then moved to California, pursuing a graduate certificate in Film Scoring from the University of California at Los Angeles. While studying, she began working as a post-production assistant on Netflix’s 'Grand Army' and 'Designated Survivor', eventually scoring spec music for both projects. She also scored 'Mama Gloria', a feature documentary highlighting the life of Black trans elder Gloria Allen, and 'In Favor of Fetus,' a short documentary detailing women's experiences affected by Wisconsin’s Cocaine Mom law. During the height of the covid-19 pandemic, she revived Sweets by Jocelyn, which she had previously put on hold to focus on composing.
