"Battle of the Bands" 2012

Last year was big, bold, brash..........and LOUD! This year will be much, much more!

Last year's event saw Saatchi & Saatchi, RSA, DDB, The Mill, PrimeFocus, AMVBBDO and Weapon 7 do battle, with the winning group performing at the Rushes party on Little Black Book's beach at the Cannes Lions. Unfortunately a little bit too much fun was had. The Gendarmes were called, French feathers were ruffled and the Mayor of Cannes himself has given us the thumbs down on live music at the beach for 2012. But this year’s prize is just as good. The winning act will get a chance to record a track with multi award winning record producer Ben Hillier. Ben has produced albums for Blur,
Elbow, Madonna and Depeche Mode to name but a few.

The rules are simple. Your group can be any combination of singers, musicians, DJs.......anything. However each act/band/collective must be made up of at least 50% advertising staff. The rest can be from whatever worlds they may inhabit. So if one of your colleagues happens to be friends with Jessie J, Hudson Mohawke or even Adele, then bring them along - we actively encourage ringers. They only other rule is that each band will have to perform a cover of our choice. The cover will be announced later.

Groups will compete in a series of heats taking place across several well-oiled evenings during May and June. Each night there will be two winners. The first decided by an impartial jury on the night. The second will be decided via a Facebook vote-off. All performances will be filmed on the night and put up on facebook the following evening. You'll then have 24 hours to rally your friends to vote for your act.

Our industry is bursting with ability and this competition is a really good way of showcasing raw [and often polished] talent. It's also a great way to have some fun, blow off some steam and meet some other industry music lovers. Although the competition was sometimes fierce last year what was really pleasant about the event was how all the bands got on together and helped each other out.

Are you up for it? Are you part of an existing band or have you spotted some talent in the office that you could convince to take part with you? If so contact us via the Eclectic Facebook page
