PepsiCo's citrusy soft drink has burst onto the Super Bowl stage with a blast - a Baja Blast. Created by agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners, and directed by O Positive's Jim Jenkins, the ad features the queen of off-kilter comedy Aubrey Plaza in a progressively bizarre series of situations. Regardless of the discomfort, annoyance or peril of her surroundings, the 'Parks and Recreation' star is always having a blast - thanks to MTN DEW's Baja Blast drink.
The spot begins with a children's party - a fairly tame but understandably irritating scenario. However, Aubrey is quickly transported to more dangerous locales: a malfunctioned elevator, a wrestling ring, a storm drain. She is even abducted by aliens: "Probe me already!" The VFX for the colourful and action-packed spot was provided by Parliament, helping bring sci-fi, fantasy and sporting worlds together.
Eventually her 'Parks and Rec' co-star Nick Offerman makes an appearance, riding on the back of a dragon and sipping at his own Baja beverage. "I too, am having a blast," he bellows, as the 'Do the Dew' tagline appears to round out the big game spot.
Also making an appearance is OpTic Gaming's legendary Call of Duty player - now a streamer and online personality - Seth 'Scump' Abner, showing that MTN DEW fans can "have a blast" anytime, anywhere, with anyone - even if that's just when you're sat at home gaming, or watching the Super Bowl on Sunday.
