Modus Operandi’s extensive, multipronged Assassin’s Creed III digital campaign includes a just released interactive trailer. This innovative trailer combines traditional film trailer storytelling with the interactive ability for the player to make path and weapon decisions. The result is a compelling and immersive experience that plunges the player into the battle of Bunker Hill as the hero of Assassin’s Creed III.
Built holistically from the ground-up to satisfy users from both a UX and storytelling perspective, Modus Operandi developed scripts, boards and animatics in advance of UI and back-end development. Original motion-graphics, dynamic post-production sound and effects were added to enhance theatricality. The interactive layer was built in Flash as well as HTML5 for mobile playability. Housed on
assassinscreed.com as well as on its own Facebook tab, the whole experience was also embeddable in blogs and websites to increase awareness of the tactic.
In addition to the new interactive trailer, other campaign facets include:
- A “pre-tease” shareable widget that allowed fans to embed a countdown clock into news feeds, enabling widespread global viewing of the announcement trailer within minutes of release.
- The “Unite to Unlock” campaign, which encouraged fans to band together and perform a multitude of social actions to achieve the release of the first Gameplay Video of Assassin’s Creed III. This program generated massive buzz around the release of the first Assassin’s Creed III gameplay trailer and garnered a massive uptick in new Facebook fans of the Assassin’s Creed page.
- A docu-series “Inside Assassin’s Creed III” which gave fans a glimpse behind the scenes, deepening the conversation and broadening the fan base, with several million views on partner channels.
