Apple, in collaboration with renowned director Takashi Miike, announces the launch of its latest Shot on iPhone project, a 19-minute live-action adaptation of the iconic manga series "Midnight" by Osamu Tezuka. This innovative film, shot entirely on iPhone 15 Pro, brings to life the thrilling suspense drama of a taxi driver encountering mysterious passengers during his nightly rounds.
'Midnight' follows the story of a taxi driver who finds himself entangled in a dangerous journey to help a female truck driver fleeing from a hitman. Directed by Takashi Miike, the film seamlessly blends live-action sequences filmed on the streets of Tokyo with illustrations from the original manga, showcasing the powerful cinematic capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro.
"We are thrilled to partner with Takashi Miike to bring this captivating story to life using only iPhone technology," said Daniella, spokesperson for Apple. "This groundbreaking project demonstrates the remarkable low-light performance and cinematic capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro, reaffirming Apple's commitment to empowering creativity."
The film premiered at an exclusive event in Tokyo last night and is now available for viewing on YouTube. Additionally, select taxis in Tokyo will feature the full film and behind-the-scenes footage after 10 PM until morning. The March 2024 issue of the original manga magazine will also feature characters from the film on its cover.
Takashi expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "As we were shooting, I naturally began to challenge myself to think about how we could make a work unique to iPhone, beyond the usual approach to a film. I truly felt that the iPhone has the power to do things that a conventional movie camera can’t."
'Midnight' represents a groundbreaking collaboration between Apple and Takashi Miike, pushing the boundaries of filmmaking and storytelling using innovative technology.
