As Britain commemorates the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, Ancestry is giving the nation the opportunity to explore the courageous stories of those who served during World War II.
To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Ancestry recreated the iconic VE Day street party on London’s Southbank this week. Paying tribute to untold stories and encouraging Brits to unearth the stories of their family, 80 place settings (complete with bespoke commemorative plates) were dedicated to everyday Britons who made invaluable contributions to the war effort and Victory in Europe. Whether that was on the battlefields, in factories, in the Air Raid Precautions or supporting local communities on the home front.
Ancestry’s ‘Table of History’ served as a heartfelt tribute to the vibrant street parties that took place 80 years ago, capturing the essence of those iconic wartime celebrations and generating nationwide coverage, including placements on BBC London and ITV London.
In addition, for a limited time only, over 2.5 million military records on Ancestry.co.uk are available for free this week, including England and Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index and Death Index, enabling users to browse from 1102 different collections.
