A Year Of Lockdown: SIREN Highlights

As winter turns to spring, optimism shines through in the extra hours of daylight, warmer temperatures and the announcement of a roadmap out of lockdown. Just two weeks shy of a whole year of social distancing and video calls (we can’t even bring ourselves to write the ‘Z’ word), the SIREN team looks back on some of their highlights from a year of remote working.

WaterAid – ‘You Can’t Have A Rainbow Without Water’

In collaboration with Don’t Panic and Stink Films, one of our earliest lockdown projects was providing Music Supervision for WaterAid’s campaign ‘You Can’t Have A Rainbow Without Water’, which features LCD Soundsystem’s ‘Oh Baby’. 

A huge thank you to LCD Soundsystem, Kobalt and Sony Music for their contribution to this fantastic campaign.

HP – ‘Magic Carpet Ride Of Learning’

Completed from start to finish in the first UK lockdown, we had the pleasure of working with composer Chris White to create a score that embraced the magical adventure of HP & Goodby Silverstein’s film ‘Magic Carpet Ride of Learning’, directed by Smith and Foulkes via Nexus Studios. 

One of the many new firsts for us in 2020 was remote recording sessions but we were in safe hands with Andy Brown and the London Metropolitan Orchestra.

BBC Sounds – ‘The Power Of BBC Sounds’

Working closely with director Sam Brown, Rogue Films, BBC Creative and Factory Studios, we took on the task of researching through hundreds of hours of BBC Sounds content for this project, looking for the perfect podcast snippets and tracks that were then woven together to form a constantly evolving soundscape seamlessly flowing between each character.

​Temptations – ‘Scaredy Cat’

Scoring the world’s first horror movie for cats is the brief that every music producer dreams of, so we couldn’t believe our luck when adam&EveDDB got in touch with Blinkink director Zombie’s treatment for Temptation’s Halloween film ‘Scaredy Cat’. It gave us the perfect excuse to dive into all of our favourite Horror scores and all in the name of ‘research’! 

We worked with composer Chris White to create a suspenseful homage to this iconic genre.

Coca-Cola - Christmas 2020 – ‘The Letter’

Finally, we saw 2020 out by creating an epic score for Oscar-winning director Taika Waititi’s Coca-Cola Christmas film ‘The Letter’, with Wieden and Kennedy London and Hungry Man. 

We joined forces with composer Alex Baranowski who worked his magic creating a beautiful, sweeping score that follows a Dad’s epic journey across the globe. It was the chance for another remote record this time recording the piece via the award winning Czech Television Sound Stage in Prague.
