72andSunny has boosted its leadership team in New York with the addition of Geoff McHenry as executive strategy director.
His role will be to lead and set the vision for the strategy department and to grow 72andSunny’s New York office, building on its game-changing work for a wide range of clients. In the past year, projects have included redesigning Zoom’s brand identity, creating a retail pop-up for 1800 Tequila and launching Sleep Number’s new creative platform.
McHenry joins from Translation, where he was a group strategy director. There, he led the strategy for WhatsApp’s “Naija Odyssey,” a 12 minute documentary about NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo that won three Clios and two New York Festivals® TV & Film Awards. Before Translation, McHenry was at Wieden+Kennedy NY, where he led strategy for the vitaminwater, Jordan Brand and Sprite accounts.
McHenry has also lent his voice to driving industry change as a co-lead of the ADCOLOR Advisory board, and as a moderator and panelist for multiple industry speaking engagements including The One Club for Creativity and Cannes Inkwell Beach. A proud graduate of Morehouse College, his passion is to create a world where people of color have the space to dream big, imagine the unimaginable and create bold ideas that challenge the status quo.
Bryan Smith, chief strategy officer at 72andSunny, said: “Geoff is a visionary strategic leader who specializes in what our clients are looking for: building brands with unrivaled relevance. He’s that rare strategist who’s as savvy about marketing effectiveness as he is about the cultural zeitgeist, and who’s as comfortable making hard-nosed recommendations with a CMO as he is leading a workshop with creative directors.”
“72andSunny was founded on the power of optimism, and my career has been shaped by my core belief that the highest human act is to inspire,” said McHenry of his appointment. “I look forward to partnering with the team to unlock creativity that inspires millions of people across the globe, while helping to build a culture that inspires each and everyone who steps foot through the doors of our New York office.”
