MATTHEW BELIEVES DEEPLY IN THE POWER OF STORIES AND THEIR ABILITY TO ENLIGHTEN, TO INSPIRE, AND TO NURTURE EMPATHY.
Matthew honed his filmmaking craft in the eclectic Nashville music scene, curating work with a focus on emotion and subtlety, alongside an affinity for timeless cinematic imagery. In 2017 he and his wife sold their cozy Nashville home, packed their car, and moved out Los Angeles to further his career as a director. Matthew now splits his time between NYC and LA, and has since collaborated with a vast array of brands including Meta, Procter & Gamble, Mitsubishi, BMW, and many more.
Alongside commercials and branded content, Matthew has continued to develop both narrative and documentary projects, driven by the pursuit of salt of the earth stories told through a grounded and immersive lens. Starting in the casting process, and continuing throughout the entirety of the production, Matthew has a discerning eye to find and elicit performances that are genuine and sincere. This approach enables audiences to form deep, meaningful connections with his films.
Matthew believes in the power of personal connection to his projects, stating, “It’s important that I find a connection to every project. Even in directing commercials, there’s always a deeper story that I find myself leaning into. If I can find the emotion and honesty, then I believe others can, too.” With experience filming in over a dozen countries and across the entire United States, Matthew has been able to find inspiration all over the globe, a quality that brings a diverse perspective to his work, from scripts, casting, locations, and production design. When he’s not on set, you’ll likely find him and his wife fostering cats in their Brooklyn apartment or out exploring with their dog Chloe.
