Y&R New York has recruited Gorgeous director Peter Thwaites to lens their latest Dell spot. A whimsical commerical that showcases Thwaites’ signature storytelling and wry humour. Featuring Annie, a small girl who with the help of her laptop and homemade green screen realises her dream of flying.
The commercial seems to reference kids’ movies from the 80s and early 90s. Complete with a retrospective voiceover, set in a small town American suburb and with a hint of grade school politics.
"This is the story of a girl named Annie who is determined to learn to fly. After repeated failed attempts, she succeeds with the help of curiosity, ingenuity and, of course, the right technology,” explained a spokesperson from Y&R New York.
The British director, whose recent work includes the Sprite Camouflage spot (inspired by Chinese artist Liu Bolin) and Martini Split Screen, is represented by Anonymous Content in the States.
