Director Yannakis Jones of production company th2ng and agency Longform recently completed a beautiful documentary-style spot for Skype. The recently released spot is one part of a series that centers on Skype’s new Translator app. The groundbreaking technology (currently in BETA) will allow fluid communication between people across cultures and continents.
Jones led the two-day shoot in China armed with a loose storyboard and the creative freedom to show how Skype Translator bridges cross-cultural and multi-lingual friendships. The spot both humanizes and highlights the Skype software on the cusp on the technological horizon.
“This was an extremely fun piece to shoot, the fluidity of the production allowed us to pick up spontaneous shots, as well as more considered set-pieces. It was important to preserve the documentary tone of the film,” stated Jones. “It’s great to be part of this Skype series and to work with a great local team to make a film that truly reflects the potential of Skype Translator.”
