Wunderman Thompson, a WPP agency, announced today that it has been re-selected to lead the advertising, marketing and strategic communication business for the Marine Corps Recruiting Command, with a brief opportunity to take its recruiting efforts to the next level.
The work spans high-level strategy, design and full-service execution across a diverse multi-media marketing mix. Wunderman Thompson Atlanta, formerly J. Walter Thompson Atlanta, has been the long-time agency of record for the Marine Corps for the past 72 years. Wunderman Thompson will bring a unique combination of strategic expertise, creativity, data and technology to the Marine Corps’ integrated advertising account.
One of Wunderman Thompson’s first tasks will be to create a roadmap for the strategic and ethical use of data to guide future marketing efforts in new platforms. This will enable the Marine Corps Recruiting Command to leverage the power of data to present their service purpose to young men and women across America who seek the challenge of serving as U.S. Marines. The initial contract phase runs until the end of 2020 but the Marine Corps has the option to extend the relationship annually until 2024.
“We congratulate Wunderman Thompson on their contract award and, once again, look forward to partnering with this talented and diverse group of marketing professionals to promote our service brand and support our Marine recruiters,” said Lieutenant Colonel Christian Devine, national director of marketing and communication strategy, Marine Corps Recruiting Command.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to continue our long-standing strategic partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps. The relationship we have built over the last 72 years means we have the depth of trust required to work together to take the Corps’ already exemplary recruiting efforts to the next level,” said Shane Atchison, CEO, Wunderman Thompson North America.
