Wieden + Kennedy Tokyo are getting behind runner Joseph Tame as he pledges to run 100m for every ‘Like’ he received on RUN Like ME, launched on Nike Running Japan Facebook.
The challenge was conceived with Nike Japan, which has recently launched the Nike Lunarglide +4, a running shoe designed to help joggers, sprinters and marathon men keep going for longer.
Joseph Tame is a British runner and freelance digital media producer who now resides on Tokyo. He is incredibly inventive in his attempts to combine his love of running with his love of social media - Tame is known for his "Art of Running" project in which he uses his GPS run data to draw out various icons and symbols, and he has also broadcast himself using iPhones strapped to his body as he runs major marathons. But with Nike's experimental RUN Like Me, Tame looks set to push his physical limits even further.
Right after the launch, Tame appeared live on NOTTV, broadcasting from a smartphone, to introduce his new challenge. During the show, some viewers left comments which they said they would like to see Joseph draw out Japanese islands with his GPS run data. In response to the request, Joseph ran almost 80km in total of over 9hrs to draw the outlines of all four major islands of Japan. Several times he had to walk through buildings to draw out a precise shape of the island but he completed the art as he has promised. The footage is now uploaded online from the link below.
RUN Like ME is continuing to receive Likes and hundreds of comments to cheer Joseph up every day. So far the project has garnered over 23,000 likes and Joseph has run over 350 km. In addition to the Likes on the campaign page, Joseph will run another 10m for each Like on posts about RUN Like ME. How far can he go until the end of this challenge on July 29th?
