As Europe decides its future at today’s European Parliamentary elections, one of the big challenges facing politicians is the puzzle of encouraging young people to get engaged and vote. Reaching out to the younger members of the electorate has been an ongoing challenge – Denmark has notoriously hit the headlines with its banned, sex ‘n’ drugs-fuelled efforts. The European Parliament and Ogilvy & Mather Belgium have taken a somewhat different approach. Eschewing the standard stern lecture - or overly juvenile humour - the European Parliament has commissioned a dark, surreal film with a fashionable spin from Czar director Koen Mortier.
Act. React. Impact sees a first-time voter thrown into an action-packed adventure. He casts his vote and is dramatically thrust out of the window. More Nowness-type fashion film than party political broadcast, the spot combines comedy and style to demonstrate the impact that a voter can have.
