Head of strategy and creative at Wallbox chats to Peek Creative Studios's Patrick van Drongelen

Wallbox creates advanced electric vehicle charging and energy management systems that redefine users’ relationship to the grid. In their own words, they are, ‘dedicated to changing the way the world uses energy.’ And Wallbox is as ambitious in its content aims as they are in its company objectives. When it comes to content, they need to showcase multiple products in as many varied situations as possible.

Having recently collaborated with Peek Creative Studios (part of the PAKT ecosystem of companies) Patrick van Drongelen, managing director of Peek discusses the benefits of virtual production with Chelsea Jones, head of strategy and creative at Wallbox.

Q> What does your content team at Wallbox look like and how does it work?

Chelsea> We have a creative and content team who are across the creative strategy for the company and campaign executions. Our capabilities include design, copywriting, social, and all content creation for both internal and external purposes.

Q> You were on the Virtual Production shoot for the Wallbox Chargers. Why did you opt for Virtual Production?

Chelsea> When I sent out the brief, I knew very little about virtual production. I knew it had been used in the world of feature film but not necessarily in content production. But I certainly knew what we needed to achieve.

We had seven different products that we needed to showcase in a variety of environments. And, for more range and differentiation, we wanted to shoot the product in different weather conditions and using different actors. Why? So that the products would appeal to the widest range of customers in varied markets. This would have been almost impossible to achieve in a real-world setting, so Virtual Production quickly became the best option for us.

Q> How was the experience?

Chelsea> The team was hugely collaborative and extremely supportive throughout this process. And we’re really happy with the outcome. We’ve never produced such a wide variety of photos before and we’re proud to be able to elevate and promote our brand in this way. We hope that far more of our customers and partners will now see themselves reflected in our imagery than ever before.

Q> What do you expect from a good working partnership?

Chelsea> It’s a great question and there are many different answers but for me it’s about flexibility, collaboration, and commitment to excellence.

Q> Do you have a wise lesson to share about this production?

Chelsea> Firstly, think very clearly and carefully about the layout of the set beforehand. The day moves incredibly fast and there were a couple of instances when the set didn’t look quite right and we lost a bit of time rearranging or brainstorming on the spot. Definitely spend more time looking at every detail of the mise-en-scene and angles available. Also leave plenty of time for editing afterward. Because it’s a virtual set photoshopping is crucial in making things look realistic and adding the elements that aren’t possible on a real-life set.

Q> Do you have any further tips to other advertisers?

Chelsea> A virtual set is an excellent solution when you need to be everywhere AND to be efficient with your budget.
