The UK Music Video Awards begins its call for submissions for the most creative and innovative work in music videos and visuals from today, June 14th. The leading global celebration of excellence in music video, will once again recognise directorial skill, honour technical and craft achievement, and spotlight the individuals and teams behind the best music videos, live videos and other music-led visual content of the last year. From today, entrants can submit their work via the official website at www.ukmva.com until August 2nd.
The Awards programme will culminate in a celebration of world-beating visual work on Thursday 26th October when the awards show will return to Magazine London on the River Thames in the Greenwich Peninsula where more than 35 awards for creative excellence in music visuals will be presented.
As new directing talent continues to emerge at pace thanks to a raft of new signings by production companies, the UKMVAs Jury will celebrate directorial achievements with 18 awards across 6 different music genres - Pop, R&B/Soul, Dance/Electronic, Rock, Alternative and Hip Hop/Rap/Grime – recognising videos for UK artists, international artists and for newcomer directors working with budgets under £10k. In addition, there will be awards for direction of the Best Live Music Video and Best Special Visual Project.
Production crew members will also be recognised across a range of crafts, including Production Design, Styling, and Choreography, while the Best Performance award will recognise artists, actors and ensemble casts whose on-screen presence leaves an indelible mark.
Technical achievement in Cinematography will be recognised with two awards – Best Cinematography in a Video and Best Director of Photography – while post-production excellence will be celebrated with awards for Colour Grading, Visual Effects, Animation and Editing.
Alongside the awards for achievement in single music video projects, a raft of categories will celebrate individuals for a body of work across the past year. The Best New Director, Director, Producer, Commissioner and Agent will be honoured, culminating in the award for the Best Production Company, recognising the team with the most impressive body of music visual work delivered between August 2022 and July 2023.
Event director, Louise Stevens, says “For 15 years the UKMVAs has been championing music video as an artform, and the community behind it who strive to help artists express themselves via ever more creative and innovative visuals. As we kick off this year’s Awards, we’re excited to uncover once again the projects and the talent behind them who continue to demonstrate that music video is such a fertile and dynamic genre of filmmaking.”
UKMVA editorial director, David Knight, adds: “In a year that has brought a new set of challenges for music video production, in the UK and elsewhere, music video makers continue to demonstrate the value of the medium to the music industry. We have seen fantastic work in the past year that demonstrates the importance of the music video in asserting an artist’s identity, and showcasing their music. Once again, this year’s UKMVAs will celebrate the very best work, and honour the talented creatives involved in making that work. We are very excited to begin that journey today.”
The UK Music Video Awards 2023 is now open and accepting entries in 36 separate categories. Submissions should be made via the dedicated website at www.ukmva.com until the entry deadline at midnight, August 2nd 2023 (BST).
