Allegro, Poland’s most popular online marketplace, has launched ‘English’, a Christmas campaign that’s equal parts amusing and touching.
Created by Warsaw-based agency Bardzo, an elderly man orders an ‘English for Beginners’ set and gets to work getting to grips with the language. He places Post-it notes on all of his belongings and gets into some embarrassing situations as he persistently practices English at every given opportunity, murmuring phrases such as “I love you, you are perfect!” on a busy bus.
But there’s much more to the story than this man’s quest to grasp the English language. Watch it for yourself below to find out why.
As you can see, he eventually places another order - for a suitcase. He boards a plane, lands in England and is welcomed by his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, who he has never met and is the reason for him embarking on the challenge to learn the new language. The spot ends with the message, “And you? What are you looking for?”
Given the mixed feelings about the UK’s decision to leave the European Union and the world generally becoming a much smaller place, with more and more people opting to live in different cultures, ‘English’ is set to touch a nerve with people all across the globe.
