The Quarry is thrilled to announce an exciting addition to its roster; Kaz Ové.
Although born in London, Kaz spent many of his formative years growing up in Jamaica and then Trinidad, before moving back to London at 17 to study film & video at The University of the Arts London: LCC. After a host of post-degree jobs, ranging from barman to pitch writer, Kaz started directing professionally himself. It was through directing that Kaz discovered his love for editing, and he has pivoted that way ever since.
On moving into uncharted territory as part of The Quarry’s roster, Kaz says, “I'm super excited to be joining the Quarry team, I’ve been a huge admirer of the work coming out of the Quarry for a while; they have an incredibly diverse and talented roster of editors creating some really cool and cutting edge work, so I can’t wait to jump in to that mix and see what we can cook up.”
Kaz’s editing work includes music videos for household names such as Akon, Stormzy, and Chase+Status, with his commercial work for huge brands including Apple Music, EA Sports, and Levi’s, just to name a few.
Kaz also happens to be the youngest member of a family full of artists - his father, Sir Horace Ové was a painter, photographer and filmmaker, his mother a producer, brother a filmmaker/sculptor, oldest sister an actress, and youngest sister a makeup artist. With such creativity surrounding him from a young age, Kaz says that it felt like “growing up in a crazy, travelling art studio”.
About Kaz’s work, Ben Campbell, editor and partner at The Quarry says, “A quick glance at Kaz’s work and it’s plain to see he’s got serious talent, with a formidable pedigree. His work is as eclectic as it is unpredictable. All he needed was a bigger boat. We look forward to helping him find his new quarry, here at The Quarry. If you know what I mean.”
With an eclectic showreel that showcases his dynamic skillset as an editor, Kaz has no intention of slowing down, and is keen to continue making waves in the industry, “The act of juxtaposing disparate images together to create meaning, for me, is really the essence of filmmaking, so to be able to do that and collaborate with other incredible artists and creators is truly a joy and something I hope to continue to do for the rest of my life - or at least until AI completely takes over.”
