Searching for a location is not a finite process in our eyes. Often, even though you’ve found the perfect, absolutely perfect place for a shoot, everything seems right at place – there is this nagging feeling inside every good location manager that somewhere out there, there is this unknown place, which is even better!
So, the pursuit of the perfect location is much like the pursuit of happiness – deep down you know it is about the pursuit itself.
At Film Fixers Balkans we strongly believe in this – and we have a dedicated in-house team fully invested in the pursuit of the perfect location.
This search is not something which is sparked by a specific request (although pretty often it can be guided by a particular need in the moment) – it is an ongoing process which is being improved upon week after week.
One week it would be Ski resorts – Slovenia, Bulgaria – they each have rich traditions in winter tourism and therefore can act as an ideal location for a winter shoot.
Another week it would be houses – whether it is a house for a family Christmas commercial or a house for a high-end home appliances supplier – you can find pretty much everything around the big cities in Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovenia or Romania.
Then it would be city streets – are you looking for a classical European street? Or London? Or New York? Well, you can have it all!
And then it would be roads – you’ve got a secret car and are looking for a place to film this magnificent vehicle? Don't look further than the roads of Slovenia and Croatia - which give you the perfect blend of mountain, coastal roads as well as inner city streets and business quarters.
Or maybe the theme of the week is desolate, abandoned utopian places? Something which seems out of our present world? Welcome to all the infrastructure left behind by the regimes in Eastern Europe – you can find plenty of this type of locations as well!
Even though the Balkans have proven to be a great fit for a big part of projects over the past few years – we feel there is still more to offer and to be discovered in the region. After all, the pursuit for the perfect location will never, ever stop.
