TELUS has unveiled GameRx, an all-in-one resource pulling together a plethora of studies and research, on the benefits of gaming and wellness, from around the world into one digestible place. The first-of-its-kind online hub is designed to leverage the power of video games and support wellness, providing Canadians with evidence-based recommendations for video games that can address various concerns.
GameRx comes to life through an interactive website where audiences can explore the connection between gaming and stress, as well as memory, focus, loneliness and even mobility. The resource is as informative as it is instructional, suggesting specific types of games and titles to support various health and wellness goals, and offering proof points through relevant studies.
“We’re here to make the future of gaming friendly. GameRx fills a much-needed gap in the general public’s understanding of video gaming and wellness,” says Rob Daintree, director of marketing communications at TELUS. “We’re big believers in putting people first, so we’re proud to help positively impact Canadians’ lives, whether they’re TELUS clients or not, for years to come.”
“We set out to change peoples’ minds, championing the fact that certain video games can actually be good for you, despite what mass media or culture might indicate,” says Leia Rogers, executive creative director at Rethink. “GameRx is a one-stop spot for gamers, and people on the periphery of gaming, to get valuable information on the power of gaming in a way that’s fun and interactive.”
To help validate and support the claims that GameRx makes, TELUS worked with industry experts, like Dr. Kris Alexander, associate professor of video games and educational technology at Toronto Metropolitan University and TED Speaker, who says, "For anybody that is curious about understanding how video games can connect them with resources for better wellness – GameRx is that resource for you."
To further amplify GameRx on social media, TELUS has partnered with tech and gaming influencers, Cara Funk and Matt Moniz, whose content across Twitch, Instagram and TikTok will roll out in the coming days.
This isn’t the first time that TELUS has forayed into the video game sector. The Canadian technology company has previously invested in the budding audience segment, launching an Esports Series last year while offering resources through TELUS Wise, empowering folks to stay safe in an online world.
GameRx is also a natural project for the critter-loving brand, given its TELUS Health platform, which leverages the power of technology to support the mental, physical and financial health of organisations and individuals around the globe.
