Coinciding with the most vibrant week for contemporary art in the city — NYC Art Week, which brings together fairs like Frieze, NADA and Independent — CAN Art Fair launched a wildposting campaign that didn’t go unnoticed. For several days, the streets of Manhattan were covered with ensaimadas duct-taped to white backgrounds, in a clear nod to The Comedian, Maurizio Cattelan’s viral banana. But this time, the banana was replaced by something just as visual, iconic, and unmistakably Balearic: the ensaimada.
The goal: to make noise in the global epicenter of art and spotlight the most distinctive contemporary art fair in the Mediterranean. Because if there’s a place to showcase what happens in Ibiza every summer, it’s where the entire art world gathers each spring. And if there’s a way to do it, it’s by sparking conversation with wit, bold identity, and unmistakable aesthetics.
The action was conceived by Officer & Gentleman, the independent creative agency based in Madrid.
From ses Illes to the world…
CAN Art Fair will celebrate its fourth edition from June 25th to 29th in Ibiza. While painting remains at the heart of the fair, this year it opens up to other artistic languages such as sculpture, textile, and video art. Nearly 40 galleries from all over the world will gather at CAN Art Fair to take part in what has become an entire month dedicated to the most current art on the Mediterranean’s most vibrant and disruptive island: Ibiza.
A fair with local flavour…
Balearic art will once again have a strong presence in this year’s edition. In addition to the galleries in the General Program, the CAN Art Fair 2025 OFF Program and the CAN Local initiative will shine a spotlight on artistic projects born in the Balearic Islands. The OFF Program will once again activate emblematic spaces across the Pityusic Islands, such as the Ses Coves Blanques Lighthouse, Sa Punta des Molí, and the Hotel Blanco in Formentera, featuring artists like Adrián Martínez, Guillermo Fornes, Alba Suau, Adrià Mayordomo, Joan Canyelles, and Samuel Almansa. Meanwhile, CAN Local will continue to nurture the island’s creative ecosystem, giving visibility to spaces like Estudio Laterna, MACE, and La Nave Salinas.
