Supply&Demand Signs Director Matt Smukler

Production company Supply&Demand has signed director Matt Smukler to their roster. Smukler brings his visual and emotional storytelling, as well as humor, to branded films, commercials, music videos, documentaries, and now feature films with the 2023 release of Wildflower starring Jean Smart, Jacki Weaver, Dash Mihok, Charlie Plummer, Brad Garrett, Alexandra Daddario, and in her starring role, Kiernan Shipka. The film will begin streaming on Hulu on June 23rd.

Matt's storytelling excellence led him to helm campaigns for some of the world's leading brands, including Toyota, MINI, Verizon, Coca-Cola, the NFL and Budweiser. Matt's work has screened at the Super Bowl and garnered numerous awards, including Silver Lions and nominations for Best Direction at the AICP Awards and Emmys.

Matt's first feature film, Wildflower premiered at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival. Adapted from a feature documentary Matt directed, the scripted feature is a heartfelt and humorous retelling of a teenage girl, coming of age as the neurotypical daughter of two neurodivergent parents who raised her as much as she raised them. It's a tender and often hilarious film that showcases Matt's ability to evoke grounded performances full of nuance, humor, heart, and poignancy.

S&D founder/owner Tim Case and EP/MD Charleen Manca expressed the same sentiment about the signing. "While watching his body of work, we both laughed, and we cried. What more needs be said," says Case. 

As Matt's body of work grew, his artistic sensibilities evolved to embrace the emotional underpinnings of his stories, making work that is moving, nuanced, and true to life.

Says Matt on joining S&D: "Upon meeting Tim and Matt, I immediately saw kindred spirits and a passion for our business that was absolutely infectious. It became very obvious to me that these two would be fantastic partners moving forward. And despite what everyone was saying, Tim's ping pong acumen only partially influenced my decision."
