Fela director Kajal creates a burger-filled dreamscape with American super DJ Steve Aoki as the brain behind the beats for a brand collaboration with Burger King and the MTV Video Music Awards (via Paramount/Viacom). The spot premiered during this year’s MTV VMA broadcast.
Beginning in Steve’s pad, the spot follows him as he draws inspiration from the friends around him before the music spills out to the neighbouring apartment block, where graffiti artists, skateboarders, and street dancers get in on this energetic ode to the end of summer. The sounds of the season’s finale become an anthem culminating in a spontaneous pool party. Surreal and vibrant, it’s a nostalgic blending of the everyday and the extraordinary, with seamless rhythm.
The spot follows last year’s collab, also directed by Kajal, featuring Latto of 'Big Energy' fame and encouraged viewers to own their authentic selves.
A Brooklyn native and all-around creative who uses her art to highlight people of colour and other women, Kajal draws inspiration from her first-generation life – trying to balance her family’s roots with the ones she’s growing for herself in the Western world. She has worked with clients including Nike, The New York Times, Complex, Peloton, Megan Thee Stallion, and Billie Eilish, to name a few.
