Speedshape & DW Drums Create First of Its Kind Drum Kit Builder
Coinciding with this year's National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) trade show, Speedshape and Drum Workshop (DW) have launched a first of its kind online web app, Kitbuilder 2.0 made with mobile-friendly HTML5.
As DW is recognized for trademark extreme customization of drum kits right down to the shell type, Speedshape is known for creating some of the most advanced online configurators. Supported on various web browsers and mobile devices including iPhone and iPad, Kitbuilder 2.0 allows for users to visualize drum and hardware finish combinations on three "Bebop", "Standard" or "Fusion" archetype sets. Using a simple and intuitive interface users can then create a fully custom overhead schematic with infinite combinations of drums, cymbals, hardware, pedals, accessories, shell types and sound comparisons. Kit creations can easily be shared via Facebook, Twitter and TinyURL. Enthusiasts also have the option to customize kits from some of the world's most popular DW artists such as Tommy Lee, Dave Grohl, Neil Peart, Sheila E. and Steve Perkins.
The three main features of Kitbuilder 2.0 include the drum and hardware finish visualizer with front and rear views on three archetype kits, a fully customizable overhead layout design tool that utilizes finger gestures on touch iOS products, and sound reference and comparison of DW's patented SSC sonic shell ply options. These features allow for non-linear toggling between building steps, seamless views of the kit's assorted patterns, finishes and colors schemes, and the ability to instantly listen to the kit’s sound variations.
"Being an avid drummer myself, I was ecstatic when DW gave us the rare opportunity to create a cutting edge web app for their top quality line of drums. It was particularly challenging to design and program entirely in HTML5 for iOS, yet give it the look and feel of Flash. We ended up creating a website that behaves like a native iPad app. It was particularly gratifying to see the raves amongst my fellow drum enthusiasts online." States CD Nels Dielman.

Data for thousands of images and models were collected to offer limitless drum kit possibilities. Another added feature of Kitbuilder 2.0 is the ability to download custom user kit images for computer wallpaper and posting to social media networks, all utilizing brand new HTML5 Canvas features. A full printable summary of the user's kit creation is available at the end of the process, and using a zip code based directory of DW dealers, a quote can be generated and responded to via html graphic email.
