Sony/ATV Wins ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Publisher Award

Sony/ATV was crowned Publisher of the Year at the 30th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

The company’s songwriters additionally won a number of other awards at the event at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles last week, including Paul Jefferies a.k.a. Nineteen85 and Allen Ritter named Songwriters of the Year.

Twenty Sony/ATV songs and their ASCAP songwriters were individually recognised with performance awards at the event.

Nineteen85 was awarded Songwriter of the Year after his Drake hits “For Free”, “Hotline Bling”, “One Dance” and “Too Good” all won performance awards, while Allen Ritter received the same accolade after receiving awards for Drake’s “Controlla”, Kanye West’s “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1”, “(Sex You) Back To Sleep” for Chris Brown and the Rihanna featuring Drake chart-topper “Work”. Other multiple Sony/ATV winners included Boi-1da, Fetty Wap and Dwayne Chin-Quee.

Twenty years after his passing, the late Notorious B.I.G., whose catalogue is with Sony/ATV, posthumously received the ASCAP Founders Award, while Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis received the ASCAP Voice of Music Award. Among the many hits of theirs published by Sony/ATV are a number for Janet Jackson, including “What Have You Done For Me Lately?” and “When I Think Of You” as well as Mariah Carey’s “Thank God I Found You”, Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Me” and Usher’s “U Remind Me”.

Sony/ATV’s Publisher of the Year win follows the company winning the same award in May at the ASCAP Pop Awards, while its Latin team has this year completed a Triple Crown with Publisher of the Year successes at ASCAP, BMI and SESAC’s Latin ceremonies.
