Smashing Ideas Debuts Furcaster Weather App for Apple TV
Seattle-based digital design agency Smashing Ideas was recently given early access to the new Apple TV app store, and designed Furcaster, a weather app that will make mornings easier for kids and parents alike. The program, which features mid-century mod-illustration and geometric visuals in a soft color pallet, is an interactive experience that helps kids get dressed appropriately for the days' weather, empowering them to make decisions while providing parents with functional weather information.
The recently released app uses Apple TV’s newly simplified user experience and advanced features, including the new Siri Remote, which the Smashing team incorporated into their design. By allowing users to toss the Furcaster treats and interact with the game environment, they added complex layers to a typically static experience.
The Furcaster interacts with the background independently of the user, telling a constantly unique story to create a bond with users. The app was designed using Motivational UX, incorporating behavioral psychology, lean user experience design and game design thinking to encourage long-term engagement and connect with users. Smashing drew on over a decade of kid-focused design to create an experience that is as rewarding for children as it is for their parents.
