Composer Simon Lockyer has this month released his new album, ‘From Above’.
The album consists of ten tracks crafted specifically for aerial photography and drone footage. Featuring a blend of ethereal atmospheres, rhythms and world-inspired instrumentation to complement cityscapes, landscapes, dynamic travel scenes and epic establishing shots.
Simon Lockyer says, “With drones becoming more available in recent years to film and TV programme makers, the use of drone footage has increased enormously in visual media projects. This has necessitated a new approach to scoring music, needing a slightly different perspective, literally!”
He added, "Given that these shots often provide a bird's-eye view, capturing vast landscapes or urban sprawls, the accompanying music needs to complement this perspective. So instead of focusing on a literal representation of the scene, a more atmospheric and ambient approach tends to work better. The viewer is drawn into the vistas which allows them to feel as though they are gliding over the landscape alongside the drone, watching the scene from a distance as well as From Above."
