THE LINE, a London-based animation studio known for its emotionally rich and visually striking storytelling, has unveiled its latest collaboration with Riot Games: a breath taking three-minute music video of the original track 'Here, Tomorrow' to celebrate the launch of their upcoming season in League of Legends, Spirit Blossom Beyond .
This animated music video was created to celebrate the return of Spirit Blossom, a beloved thematic that blends myth, memory, and the mystical beauty of Ionia. The video explores themes of legacy, family, and transformation, taking viewers on a journey through a world where the living and the spiritual collide.
“At its deepest level this film is about stories and connection,” said Sam Taylor, the film’s co-director. Set in the mystical land of Ionia, the music video takes viewers on a poetic journey. We open on a single Spirit Blossom drifting downstream through a dense, ancient forest that’s bursting with life and embedded with forgotten idols, offering a quiet yet powerful invitation into this enchanted world. From there, we travel through empty corners of Ionia, slowly building toward the ultimate expression of connection and belonging: The Spirit Blossom Festival.
To visually distinguish the spirit realm from the physical world of Ionia, THE LINE made bold stylistic choices. The spiritual dimension was rendered with heightened, otherworldly textures and a saturated, dreamlike colour palette. This contrast creates a sense of wonder and disorientation, where the familiar gives way to the mythic. The textures pulse with energy and movement, emphasising the motif that the spirit realm is live, restless, and constantly shifting. In contrast, Ionia’s landscapes were grounded in rich, earthy tones and tangible detail - lush forests, ancient idols, and glowing lanterns that evoke warmth and tradition.
In sequences featuring characters like Ashe and Lux, THE LINE leaned further into this duality. Ashe’s scenes through mythic Ionia were designed to feel like stepping into a living storybook - fluid, vibrant, and filled with motion. Lux’s sequence, centred around the motif of light, used heavily textured animation, visually representing her connection to the spirit world and the tension within it.
This piece is more than just a celebration of new in-game content. It’s a cinematic journey into a richly imagined universe. Through stunning animation, textured visual design, and heartfelt storytelling, this collaboration marks a bold step forward for animated storytelling in the games industry.
