Revolver Films has announced the signing of director Samantha MacAdam to its roster.

An award winning Guyanese-Canadian narrative filmmaker, who specialises in comedy with a side of horror, Samantha was recently named to Playback’s '10 to Watch 2021' list. With her background in film editing, Samantha brings an invaluable skillset with to her projects as a director.

Recently, her work includes co-writing and directing a series of commercials for the 2022 Juno awards with Marvel’s Simu Liu, who also stars in the spots and who is also hosting the live event on the CBC.

Over the past few years, Samantha has accumulated numerous accolades. Her comedic feature screenplay, ‘Prom Night’, was selected for the Whistler Film Festival, the Women in the Director’s Chair: Story & Leadership program 2021, and the Toronto International Film Festival’s Big Pitch Event 2020. Her comedic short/proof-of-concept, ‘Prom Night’, premiered at Just for Laughs where it beat out over 650 films and became a top-five finalist in Kevin Hart’s LOL Showcase. She also won the story competition for her concept pitch on ‘The Nut Job 3’, an animated film starring Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph.

As a recipient of a Canada Council for the Arts grant, she is currently developing two feature projects – her comedy, ‘Prom Night’, which she is slated to pitch to Netflix at BANFF 2022, and a horror based on true crimes in Guyana, ‘The Horrible History of Harriet Jones.’

Says EP/MP Luc Frappier: “Sam has an infectious personality and sense of humour that shines bright! Her work as both a director and writer is the direct embodiment and reflection of that authenticity."

Says EP Richard Cureton - “Samantha has been on our radar for quit some time. She understands comedy and performance in a way that is fresh and modern, because she has a writing background she understands story, and the beats that all good comedy directors possess.

Says Director Samantha: "Signing with Revolver is a full-circle moment for me, I started my career working as a receptionist at 299 Queen Street (The Much Music building) I remember seeing all the amazing projects that Revolver did and I’d get a thrill whenever I had to pass on a delivery for them – so excited and honored to sign on and can’t wait to create some amazing work with them and share it with the world!"
