Director Dylan Maranda, represented by Sequoia Content, has recently released a directors cut for Redwing Shoe Co’s global labour day campaign 'Trades-Made.' Working alongside Mischief NYC for a visually stunning 'open source' campaign that was made available for all trades based brands to use.
Dylan Maranda worked with cinematographer Cole Graham exclusively on Phantom slow motion cameras for the piece - using real trades people cast through VAKA Street Casting and sometimes on active job sites.
Dylan said, “This project was made possible by a lot of people putting in extra work to really do justice to the authenticity of real trades - the team that came together to make this was truly incredible. I was extremely thankful to Mischief for giving me a long creative leash and being open to my non-conventional approach given the limited budget. I think we did the hardworking people of the trades proud!”
Originally pitched as a stills shoot, Dylan came back to Mischief with the idea of authentically representing real trades people and their jobs in ultra slow motion. Part of that was always finding a way to block the face of the trades person in frame to create a 'lean in' affect with the audience and remind the viewer of the disconnect we sometimes have to trades based industries. Dylan was inspired by the work of Adam Magyar for using ultra-slow motion as a way of providing a prolonged viewing experience to create opportunity to ponder the nuances in the message of the film.
The project is currently running as part of Redwing’s 'Trades-Made' campaign, which can be found here.
Made as part of an 'open-source' campaign available for creative licensing for all trades based brands, Dylan Maranda directs a visually stunning campaign shot by Cole Graham entirely on Phantom cameras for Redwing Shoes.
