Radio LBB: The Slow Fall into Autumn
Yessian’s Lars Makie constructs a playlist to soundtrack the encroaching cold of the season (if you live in the northern hemisphere, that is)
The first days of autumn are just behind us. The air is starting to chill at night but the sun is still warming up the days. It’s one of my favourite times of year. What better reason to put together a playlist of some of my favourite songs, new and old.
Some of these I’ve only just discovered, like ‘La Morsure De La Comtesse’ (thanks to Andy Votel for posting it on his Instagram). While others have been favourites for years. You never know where you might find the right song to help tell the story.
I knew right when I started putting this playlist together what song I wanted at the end. I stumbled back on to ‘Let The Happiness In’ a little while ago and had forgotten how much I loved it. Ages ago I would use it to end super-moody mixtapes and I thought it would be the perfect way to end this mix.
Maybe you’ll find yourself dancing to ‘Karmacoma’ in your kitchen while cooking a nice roast. Maybe you’ll be sitting in the park soaking up the sun on ‘The Last Good Day Of The Year’. Or maybe just giving pause to reflect on some of the fantastic musicians who’ve passed this year such as Richard Swift, Hugh Masekela, or the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin.
Whatever the scene, hopefully there will be something here that will help ease the transition into fall.
