We're passing the Aux this time to Faizal Mostrixx - a Ugandan afro-futurist music producer, DJ, dancer and choreographer who creates electrifying multi-sensory sets. We first came across him at Twenty Below when researching music for a Nike commercial last year, leading to a placement with his track 'Transitions'. His music has also been featured in an Adidas campaign. Faizal is currently busy working on new music, and we can't wait to hear what he's been cooking up...
As Faizal Mostrixx´s latest album press release states: “From a Western perspective, Afrofuturism is having a moment ― but that’s what it is, a Western perspective that grants a certain neat status to what it sees on the concert stages of its own continents. Afrofuturism has always been there, driven by the encounter between traditional roots sounds and the possibilities afforded by each new generation of technology. A style, yes, but more than that an imperative, a state of mind, perhaps even a state of emergency”.
Afrofuturism is where African identities are reinvented through ground breaking music. Afrofuturism reclaims ownership of black identity, using art, technology, and music. Faizal Mostrixx presents a list of tracks that represent Afrofuturist music for him, all coming from Africa:
“When it comes to Afrofuturism and music, there is a lot to listen and dance to. Here are some of the tracks and artists that I can reference, where African traditional root music old and new is intertwined with modern music styles. I find it imaginative and grounding, and it plus gives a growing and optimistic image of the continent.”
