Meet some of our humans making things happen behind the scenes. We asked them a few questions, with one requirement… to please keep it interesting.

Name, Title?

Sam Kendrick, senior director, social marketing.

How do you explain what you do to your family/friends? 

I usually let them describe it to me in the form of a question then say, “Yeah, basically it’s that.” 

How do you start your day?

I wake up, kiss my big fat Frenchie dogs Augie and Shiny, then watch YouTube drama and drink a Pedialyte or Electrolit while I read emails. I quit caffeine but I used to do four shots over ice or a sugar-free Red Bull. Nutty. 

What’s on your desk right now?

Six Zyn cans (citrus king), PSA eight Zapdos, a broken Soviet Union alarm clock that goes off sometimes, an Aztec whistle I got scammed into buying on my honeymoon, a KA-BAR knife I open letters/packages with, Hoopla by Warren Berger and a Joji In Tongues EP vinyl that I like to look at.

What would you be doing if you didn’t work in the creative industry?

GameStop manager or dead.

What's a piece of work that really stood out to you in the last year? 

What the hell is going on with pharma ads all going for musical numbers? And why are these ads being SLAMMED during sporting events? I love the NFL and combat sports, and in between the violence, you get hit with that Jardiance dance number or the Cologuard “I Did It My Way” cover. “OH OH OH OZEMPIC!” (If anyone knows how to get some for under $500, holler at ya fatboy, okay?).

What film, TV show or piece of online content do you love that no one else seems to like?

I’m a normie – everything I like is adored by the unwashed masses. This is an interesting question though, and made me think of a couple pieces of media that I really liked that are badly reviewed and disliked in general. I REALLY liked True Detective Season 2 and Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel. SUE ME.  

What’s your biggest hot take?

Social media is the most grifter-heavy game in the business. I get really aggravated at scammers spouting “thought leadership” on X and LinkedIn because it hurts the industry and it sets false expectations for junior employees coming up. You can find me throwing bows on LinkedIn. 

This also puts weight for those who know in the voices of those who speak truth in social marketing, so shout out to Zaria from Duolingo and the Steak-umm’s homie. 

Anything else you feel like sharing with us?

I’m ranked champ in Rocket League even though I only play with randoms. I’ve never made it to GC but I feel like that’s impressive for a casual player like me. 

I unironically listen to Oliver Tree.

I’m still kinda afraid of the dark when I try to fall asleep but only at home?!? Unpack that one, kids! SHEESH.
