It's a different world. And we’re a different Crispin.
Meet some of our humans making things happen behind the scenes. We asked them a few questions, with one requirement… to please keep it interesting.
Lauren Scotton, VP – people
My job strikes a fulfilling balance of keeping employees motivated and the company compliant. On the employee side, I get to be sort of like a corporate career counsellor, and it’s so gratifying to be able to help people fulfil their full potential. Also, keeping the company compliant allows our immensely talented people to keep their attention on bringing amazing solutions to our clients’ needs.
Every day starts with a bit of a sprint, having two young and energised children! I do my best to get up an hour before them so I have a chance to exercise or mentally prepare for the day. I’m not a coffee drinker, so I start my mornings with a green tea. My husband and I have also started doing face plunges in ice water each morning – a great way to shock the senses a bit (and maybe beat the caffeine craving!). From there I start prepping breakfasts and lunches, getting kids dressed, etc. I try to have everyone out of the house by 7:25am, giving me a few extra minutes to get myself ready before diving into work.
Green tea (always), a glass of water, some succulents and a plaque someone once gave to me that says “Difference Maker – A dedicated person who can make a big impact even with just a small action or few words, someone who improves the lives of others. One who rallies or encourages others to propel themselves forward and bring about change.” We all have an opportunity to change the world, even through small actions.
My dream job is performing in Chicago on Broadway (like, I literally have dreams about this! Maybe one day when I grow up! ;). More realistically, though, I might find myself as a therapist because I love helping people work through their challenges and find ways to excel.
First thing that comes to mind is the Apple 15 'miss you' commercial because it just influenced me to buy a new phone. No regrets. ;) I’m also inspired by the schoolwork and crafts my children create. Observing their growth and development through what they create offers a peek into their ever-growing minds and understanding of the world around them.
I’m not at Crispin for my creativity in the same way as others in our organisation but I consider myself a creative in how I try to approach difficult situations to find a sometimes non-obvious but (hopefully) all-serving solution. I’m also really great at creating magic for my kids. Top-notch Elf on the Shelf skills!
Haha, this seems like a trap! I’m kidding – I would say my biggest hot take is maybe not a hot take at all but a reminder that we often only see one aspect of a person’s day or life, one part of their obligations, so it’s important to give each other grace and support. We all have a lot going on, both at work and elsewhere as we try to offer our best to our employer, our clients, our families, our friends and our communities. It’s sometimes overwhelming but more often rewarding, which is why we all do what we do.
