Crispin Porter + Bogusky's series continues with crystals, Adventure Time and why we are in a new golden age of animation

It's a different world. And we’re a different Crispin.

Meet some of our humans making things happen behind the scenes. We asked them a few questions, with one requirement… to please keep it interesting.

Name, Title?

JP Lopez, creative director

How do you explain what you do to your family/friends?

I only try to bring it up whenever it makes sense in context, like… “You know that ad you were served on Instagram? It’s because you searched for teeth whitening. Yeah, I did that.”

How do you start your day?

I’m not a morning person, so coffee helps.

What’s on your desk right now?

Crystals – I’m a Virgo and I gotta keep my energy in check. A book: The Coaching Habit, by Michael Bungay Stanier (which I admittedly haven’t read yet), some pain killers and a bottle of Mezcal. It’s for a project I swear.

No, no… what is literally on your desk right now?

Well since you insist: I also have a few cables, some pens, receipts, an external hard drive and a lucky cat memento that I brought home from Japan.

What would you be doing if you didn’t work in the creative industry?

I’d probably be cooking somewhere… Yes, Chef!

What's a piece of work that really stood out to you in the last year?

I think we’re in a new golden age of animation. Movies like 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' and 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem' have really stood out to me as revolutionary this year. The stories, soundtracks, art styles, and even voice actor choices have been impeccable. If you haven’t been watching animated films and series, stop what you’re doing and watch those two films immediately.

What film, TV show or piece of online content do you love that no one else seems to like?

Speaking of animation… I love Adventure Time. I highly recommend you watch the new series on HBO Max called “Fionna and Cake,” which extends the story. Pendleton Ward created an awesome little universe and I think it doesn’t get enough love. But that may just be me.

What’s your biggest hot take?

AI isn’t going to be the scary monster everyone fears. I think it will render certain occupations/things, obsolete but will ultimately make our lives easier to manage and be a tool that we all use to be more creative and inventive as a species… hopefully. 🤞🏽 Also, NFTs are a scam.

Anything else you feel like sharing with us?

If you can’t tell that I’m into films and TV by now, this will be my last hint. Go watch the 2013 film called 'Her,' written and directed by Spike Jonze. I think it’s a beautiful movie that is eerily looking more and more realistic.
