Photoplay director Michael Gupta has just dropped a new emotionally charged music video for Australian band Winter Swim with the release of Late For Love.
Portraying the hard line a woman must cross to keep her son safe and fed, Late For Love depicts a universal story of sacrifice and strength, and the unconditional force of a mother’s love.
Late For Love is Winter Swim’s second track release following on from the band’s work with Gupta on Easy, a Ciclope award-winning cinematic piece exploring a complicated, co-dependent family relationship.
Once again, the band handed over full creative license to Gupta to tell a follow up story of family dynamics in a film that connects with the subtle tone and nostalgic tempo of the track.
Gupta said, “When it came to Late For Love, we knew we wanted to continue exploring a parent/child relationship that was complicated and fraught. The track gave us endless fuel and it kind of led us on a path to develop a narrative that was layered, unexpected and ultimately complex. We just wanted to do it justice and match the tone of the music in a beautiful, heartrending way.
“It’s an undisputed tale of love, regret and hope that we hope audiences will connect with.”
Oliver Lawrance, executive producer, Photoplay added, “Michael has once again taken audiences on such a captivating cinematic journey. He captures such human fragility and vulnerability in his characters, and his eye for detail and ability to tell stories of otherness that connect on an emotional level make him such an exciting director to collaborate with.”
